The Lions are praised for their progress, but that progress is not enough to settle the argument around Brad Holmes. The core point is that Detroit should aim beyond simply making the playoffs, and the front office has not done enough lately to prove it can build a championship roster.

I want to look at, let's take a look at a Lions comment, this one coming courtesy of Bobby Buckley
0:04
And Bobby, I'm not going to say you were mean or anything along those lines. You just had a little bit of a disagreement with my stance
0:10
Me pointing out my questions as to whether Brad Holmes is doing enough as general manager for this Lions team
0:16
And your response to that was, some of you forget how bad it was before he got here
0:22
You doubled down on it in the comments with others saying they have won more playoff games with him
0:27
than anybody else in franchise history over the last 25 years. And Bobby, I totally respect your opinion
0:34
but I do have to warn you to tread lightly because it is a very dangerous area to romance the area of it's good enough
0:42
Because that's the area the Red Wings treaded in for so long, saying making the playoffs was good enough
0:48
It was good enough until it wasn't, and when it became not good enough
0:52
here we are, 10 years later in a Dead Wings era. Now, I was a strong proponent of we should have fired Caldwell well before we did
1:03
Not many people agree with that. They said getting to the playoffs was good enough, and you look who took over after him, Matt Patricia
1:09
Yes, wrong hire in Patricia. I'll give you that all day. But Dan Campbell proved that this team has a higher ceiling than just making the playoffs I not doubting Dan Campbell but I am doubting Brad Holmes Did he have a great first few drafts Absolutely
1:24
He hit it out of the park with Jameer Gibbs. Campbell's kind of making me a little, Jack Campbell that is
1:30
is making it a little harder to buy into that one, but he's still a solid piece
1:34
Laporta was a hit. I say Jameau was a hit now, but it's been a while
1:38
If you look at those names I listed, those were several years ago we drafted those guys
1:42
He hasn't hit it out of the park with anybody else in a long time
1:46
And on top of that, he has not made a lot of off-season moves or in-season moves to improve this team
1:53
So you might say it's been better than we've been used to as a Lions fan in past history
1:59
but this team is capable of more than just being good enough or challenging for a playoff spot
2:05
We saw it a few years ago. Dan Campbell can get this team to a Super Bowl
2:09
I firmly believe that. He was one bad half away from getting us to the Super Bowl when it came to that game against
2:15
the Niners. I think Dan Campbell can get us to a Super Bowl
2:19
I don't know if Brad Holmes can. He might not be good enough for my standards
2:24
And good enough is not just making the playoffs. Good enough is not just winning the division
2:29
For me, and what I think every fan's bar should be, good enough is winning a championship
2:35
I don't know if Brad Holmes has what it takes. Guys
