DSN Daily: Michigan drops off the AP top 25 + What You Need to Know in Detroit Sports Today

Michigan is no longer ranked. The NFL season kicks off today and who knows what's going on in Hockey Town

Our chance to talk about all of the happenings in Detroit sports from yesterday and everything to come today

And let's start off with the biggest news of all. Michigan is no longer in the top 25

Wolverines entering the year at number 16 in both the coaches and AP poll

They still managed to sneak in at number 24 in the coaches poll, but they are outside of the top 25 when it comes to the AP poll

May not be the decision I would have came up with. I do have a hard time giving a team that entered the year at number 16

and still winning their season opener. I have a hard time giving them the boot all the way outside of the top 25

However, there isn't much merit for me to stand on that decision

because Michigan looked horrid against Western. I've been very vocal about it

They looked horrible. And they needed an extra second to just come away with that win

You got the Mac challenging the credibility of that extra second. Jonathan Hart's got the article based on that

But at the end of the day, I do think that was the right call. I don't think it was an imaginary second that was added to the clock

I think it was a legitimate second. My gripe is the fact that you needed the refs to find you a fraction of a second

to come away with the win against Western. You take that second outside of the equation too

how about everything else that went Michigan's favor? The fact that no face mask was called late in the fourth quarter The running into the kicker that was never called in the fourth quarter This was seriously one of the most SOL losses I ever seen in my life and it was handed to Western You just throw a Lions logo on Western a Packers logo on Michigan and I

seen this script many a times as a Lions fan, only this time it benefits the Wolverines

To me, this game, it fell squarely on Bryce Underwood. And I know Glenn has got an article

talking about the decisiveness with fans and how they have a split reaction towards Bryce Underwood

With this Michigan fan, no split reaction. I know for a fact he is not the guy

And I blame him squarely for the reason this game was close to begin with

He is solely responsible for six of Western's points. That's half of their points

You look at the six points that the defense gave up via field goals, fine

We'll talk about the first drive. We'll talk about that deep third and early fourth quarter drive

But what about the interception that Bryce Underwood threw to end the half

That set Western up for a field goal. The fumble Bryce Underwood had in the fourth quarter

That set Western up for a field goal. To me, bravo Michigan defense

You did your job. Bryce Underwood put you behind the eight ball. The defense delivered

But at the end of the day, Michigan is unranked. And they have a tough challenge against Oklahoma

I can't see them coming out ahead. Now let's shift gears to the NFL because today it's weird

to say it on a Wednesday but today is the start of the season. Lions against the Saints. Richard

Knight's got some positive news coming their way and one of them's a little bit of a surprise at

the discomfort of Dan Campbell A funny article you can check out Tom Kennedy he will be playing this weekend against the Saints Maybe not news that Dan Campbell wanted to let slip but at the end of the day

I'm glad to see him out there on the field. The offense for me is going to be a big strong suit

for the Lions, I think. I like the receiving core. It'll be nice to have him to the addition

I also think it's going to be a big step up year for St. Brown this season. Last year was a little

patchy. I also think Jameson Williams is going to have another good year. Just give me a healthy

Sam Laporta too. We don't need him week one, but if we can have him for the Bills, that's what I

really want him for. And again, it's also really a bit, a big shame about Pacheco, but I don't think

we're going to be complaining that much when we see the one man show that is Jameer Gibbs. That's

some positive news. Richard Knight also having some news that may be a little bit misleading

positive. Kirby Joseph is back on the team, but as an end result, I don't think he's ever going to

play. That's just my personal opinion. Yes, he's returned to the team. Again, Richard Knight with

the article on what that means, but I don't ever see him playing another snap in the NFL

Keep in mind, I worked with the Lions Radio Network the last few seasons, so I'm always down

there at Ford Field, in the locker room, up in the press box, and you get all of us broadcasters

together. We're worse than a couple of ladies in a sewing circle. We're gossips, and the gossip

that I always heard, this is nothing credible that I can say and point to as an actual fact

but just my opinion through the gossip in the locker room, I don't think we're ever

going to see Kirby Joseph play again. That is just my personal opinion

Now let's shift gears one more time and it's the best news of all, guys

The Red Wings finally have got a GM Just kidding That would mean they actually a competent organization We don have one of those Aaron got the details as to why we don have a GM how we don have a GM

We're just a few weeks shy, less than two as a matter of fact, of training camp

And we still do not have a GM. And that is just disgusting

That is absolutely disgusting. This used to be a destination team. and here we are a few weeks shy of the season opener. We have no general manager. We have a

captain that doesn't want to be here. Guess what Larkin? Philly's knocking. We have got nothing

This team is a joke and to me that is absolutely unacceptable. There are just certain teams in the

world of sports that should never be bad. The Lakers should never be bad. The Yankees should

never be bad. And in the NHL, the Red Wings should never be bad. We've been bad for a long time and

since the Eiser plan took over, this team has gone from bad to a complete joke. We don't have a GM

we have a captain that doesn't want to be here, and we've got a ship that is rolling in the ocean

completely directionless. Guys, this is bad. Those are my thoughts, but I would love to hear from you
